  Digital Citizenship or just Citizenship

Citizenship on its own – often thought of as political or aligned to one country ( click to find a definition of Citizenship.
We need to view “digital citizenship” as simply part of our everyday “citizenship” as active-citizens activities.


  Digital Literacy

Literacy – the ability to read and write.

Critical Literacy – What do you read into the text.

Digital Literacy –’The ability to use technology as a tool to research, organise, evaluate and communicate information, and the possession of a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access and use of information.

 
Digital Divide –Ireland : Has some of the highest levels of STE. (Science,Technologhy,Engineering & Mathematics) degree level graduates….yet the lowest levels of basic digital skills.

  Digital Literacy Today

‘The capabilities which fit someone for living, learning, and working in a digital society’ (Jisc, 2014)

Younger people/students often perceived as ‘digital natives’ who are comfortable and expert in using technology, - unhelpful assumptions about their digital and information literacy skills (Jones and Czerniewicz, 2010).
